The last of the great Nico Douga Dance Cover reuploader channels has finally gone down. For good? Possibly. BoutoKM is only the last of a long line of great reuploader channels - starting with the now-defunct Bjorkit channel (it's still up, but there hasn't been a new video upload since the beginning of 2012), the loss of the Japanese-run AJUKII channel back in 2012, the trio of Treetopfan channels that all were eventually shut down, and then BoutoKM & his set of channels that all seem to be shut down now. You could add ffstip as well - his videos included dancers that were more obscure & he did something the other channels above didn't -- he asked for permission to reupload the videos from the dancers themselves. He hasn't updated since September of 2013.

This is going to be a extremely long post, so hit the jump to read more...
=======================================

Nico Douga reuploaders on YouTube were the great double-edge sword -- not just for Dance Covers (Odottemita, or "Danced_It"), but Vocal Covers (Utattemita, or "Sang_It") as well. The popularity of many Japanese dancers to foreigners abroad can be attributed to these channels -- without these channels, it's likely dancers such as Miume, Melochin, Apricot*, K'suke, Ry☆, KamenLiar-217, Ririri, and many others wouldn't be as well known outside Japan. Sometimes their videos would go into the million view or higher range.

However, the views on this videos would take away views from the original videos from either on Nico Douga or on YouTube. This has certainly troubled some dancers as they have no control over which videos get reuploaded. Simply searching "BoutoKM" on twitter brings up this tweet from Apricot*:
Even with the terrible translation, it's apparent that some in the Odottemita community in Japan don't take kindly to reuploaders. Moreover, many of the dance videos on Nico Douga now come with a "No Reprint" disclaimer in their descriptions.

Yes, the overall popularity of many dancers will take a major hit with the loss of the major reuploader channels - but it opens up a opportunity for true fans of these dancers to really support them. You can start by doing one of the two below:

1) Get used to Nico Douga:Yes, I know Nico Douga is not exactly the most English-friendly website to use. They also require you to make a account on their site in order to view the videos. Making a account these days is relatively easy - so not making one is just silly. I know - you may hate Nico Douga because it doesn't allow for embedding on Twitter or Facebook. Their mobile site is absolutely atrocious to non-Japanese speakers because it's not even translated as of yet. The Nico Douga app on iTunes is only available in Japan. Searching for your favorite dancer can sometimes make things extremely difficult. With that said, it's still possible to view videos on Nico Douga, even on a mobile phone without the app. Here are some (hopefully) self-explanatory pictures off my mobile phone:

Hopefully Nico Douga starts supporting English more - after 2012 it has simply given up and went home leaving many English users high and dry.
Obviously not everyone has a YouTube channel - of particular note is that Melochin as of right now does not have a YouTube channel. If your favorite dancer is not listed above but has a YouTube channel (and you know they're the ones running it), don't be afraid to link them in the comments section of this blogpost and I'll try to update this post with any more that should be added.

Hopefully if there are more subscribers on their channels, it will convince them to upload videos that are usually only uploaded to Nico Douga to also upload them on YouTube. Though, sometimes YouTube with it's terrible DMCA policy may not allow them to do so.

Lastly, to end this blogpost - please don't be afraid to share this around the Odottemita watching community. Whether that is on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube, Google+, Vimeo, Mixi, Ameblo, Line, Myspace, or whatever social media service you are using. The more fans that are able to do this - the less-likely that another reuploader the size of a BoutoKM or Treetopfan getting taken down by YouTube will not have a major impact to Odottemita lovers outside of Japan.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01234149460982766802noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4092280.post-68521866674409902862014-05-20T11:46:00.000-07:002014-05-20T11:46:02.853-07:00Zooms in Dance Covers and how to properly use them

So this tweet popped up in my twitterfeed recently and it had me thinking about my own editing. When I work on a new video, and it has multiple cuts (ie. different angle shots from the same take, a zoom shot with a out shot, multiple takes, etc.), those type of videos for me tend to take some time because I take GREAT care of how I edit a video.
I'm one of the rare people outside of Japan who films Dance Covers for others. Not that there is a lot of them in Japan itself, but that I actually put in well over $2000 USD so far into my equipment. Mind you, back when I started filming covers in Feburary 2012, it was also to improve my gear for my main hobby at the time - Cosplay Photography. It really was last year around April 2013 that I really doubled down and bought my second DSLR camera, bought a 50mm and recently a 35mm fixed focal lens specifically for Dance Covers so I can deal with low light situations. When I filmed those early covers, my inspirations back then were videos such as Apricot's "Heart Beats" video - where even just the one shot was magical.

Even back in 2012, I had experimented with Zooms. With, well, cringe-worthy results. I wouldn't work on multiple angles until I started watching the early Cozmosse videos and got my 2nd camera. Though, it isn't the Cozmosse videos that I really took after with my style - another Twitter friend of mine, Treetopfan (remember him?), had mentioned he didn't like their videos because it used an excessive number of cuts - something I actually agreed with. Furthermore, my own Mom actually chimed in on my videos with one simple statement - "I love the dances, but I can't see their faces."

In style, I would say I took a lot from Seeking Expressions (the guys behind the scenes for Cozmosse) - but I actively wanted to have my style look very different from them as well. It would be around this time that my favorite Odorite dancer - Makoto (馬琴) would come out with a new video. I'm sure I've mentioned this somewhere before on the internet, but Makoto is the one that hooked me into following Japanese Odorites (it was her Ren'ai Circulation that brought me in). So it would be natural that a Makoto video would be the one where when I saw it, I knew that the answers to my own developing style were right there.

This video from a editing standpoint is a masterpiece to me. But the one major influence this video gave me to apply to my own work is this - every piece of effects, zooms, camera movement had one singular purpose. That purpose is to show off the dancer/s and ALL the talents of that dancer/s. Every cut was to show off how amazingly beautiful Makoto is but it only zoomed in sections where there was minimal movement. Every effect was to enhance her dance and add color but not be a distraction.

That - right there - is what I try to achieve in my own videos. I want to show off the dancer, their dance, and everything else about them that you can see through the lens. There are times where I fail, and times where I wish I had done better - but I always strive to this ideal. There have been times where I used to hate certain filming techniques then saw them in the back end and ended up liking them. I'll admit, there are videos I feel completely satisfied with - that there really isn't much I could ever add to those videos. I myself still feel there is much more to learn - especially editing. But there is always new songs, new dances to film - and I love to make these videos where people will see them and (hopefully) come away impressed.

So when you see the dance videos I have worked on next time, give some thought on why I chose to use the shots that I ended up using. Maybe you'll be surprised by what answers you by yourself may end up with - and maybe you could then apply those answers to your own dance covers.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01234149460982766802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4092280.post-19695404616028591812014-04-23T18:32:00.001-07:002014-04-23T18:33:37.164-07:00Anime Conji 2014

Oh man, I haven't felt this tired after a con in a long while (probably SDCC last year.) Having to work during the seven days before the con was really tiring, and somehow I still had the energy to get through Conji. I didn't post too many twitter statuses as I usually would during a con out of partial guilt to my co-workers at work who had to work during the weekend while I was the only one who had the weekend off. Luckily, everything regarding the family business was pretty quiet during the weekend - only requiring me to leave the con on friday for two hours to deal with a minor issue. It was unfortunate that was the time a lot of good things were happening at the Free! pool party that I saw pics and cell phone footage of later in the day.
I didn't expect to chill out with the Crunchyroll Ambassadors as much as I did, or even just have small chats with the Japanese Guest of Honor - USAKO and his friend Masa. If I wasn't excited next weekend for Nico Chokaigi before, I should be now since USAKO is hosting the Nico Cospllection going on at Chokaigi next weekend. It was unfortunate that I didn't run into him on Sunday - he was in his Dracule Mihawk cosplay that I first saw him wear at the last Nico Cospllection.

In terms of photos, I would consider this con to be a lackluster performance as a photographer - I feel that I could've gotten more awesome photos if I had just been more outgoing and non-selective as I was and just let the shutter fly. Most of the photos I do have though are amazing - and I seriously had too much fun using the AX sandlot sets that SPJA brought down for Conji. Seriously, the bed is a dang table - I hope no one at AX believes it is a bed and tries to body jump on it and injure themselves.

It's actually something I don't do as often as I should. Also, don't ask me how I didn't manage to get photos of SailorBee or Maridah - or whoever else famous cosplayer there was at Conji. Sometimes photos with people don't happen just cause.

Anyway, there were a ton of memories from this con that were absolutely amazing - and of course photos and videos to edit that I'll be spending time on in editing hell throughout this week.

To all who I met, ran into, saw again, and chilled out with - seriously you all are awesome and I love you all. To those who I won't see in awhile - I'm looking forward to see you again hopefully soon. To those who I will see this upcoming weekend at the 2-year anniversary of the SD Dance Meetups, BE READY! :P
So it's been about two days now since the end of the 2014 version of Anime Los Angeles and I'm just getting to making this post now. I'm totally bad, lol.

Anyway, I'll be featuring some of the photos I took post-jump when they're done (hopefully it won't take months) as well as the dance covers I shot at the con (the photo above is a preview of all of them.)

(EDIT - All the photos (edited) are up, so just the dance videos that have to be done now.)

So I'm on my blog that I seldom post on to announce something pretty exciting for those who watch my YouTube channel! I'm going to be posting a lot of new videos in a span of seven days leading up to Christmas Eve, as a present to all! This means I'll be hard at work editing, rendering, and posting videos on my channel in a massive pace. This will be the highest amount of videos I have posted on my channel ever in a seven day span, so I hope you'll all look forward to it! I'm actually worried that I might not even have enough footage, or that I won't get to it all (sorry if that actually comes to pass.) So, follow this thread or follow my YouTube channel and check it out! Below is a general idea of what videos will be released on a particular day:

Day 1 - New Videos! -- Seriously, new dance covers!

Day 2 - Alternate Shots -- These are videos that are alternate shots to videos already put up throughout the year.

Day 3 - The Backlog -- These are videos that for some reason have not be released within 30 days after they were filmed.

Day 4 - The Trash Bin -- These are videos that were trashed because of various reasons, including negative viewer feedback, bad editing, bad filming, and other such stuff.

Day 5 - Convention Play -- Videos filmed at conventions that have not been released, including my first try at a Cosplay PV!

Day 6 - Blooper Reel -- The funny moments between takes and those silly outtakes - being shown for the first time outside the meetup group!

Day 7 - Christmas Live! -- Christmas Eve ends the Seven Days of Video Goodness with the performances filmed at the Balboa Park December Nights event from the San Diego K-Pop Flash Mob and The Mochi Maid Cafe!

Day 1 Videos:

Day 2 Videos

Day 3 Videos:

Day 4 Videos:

Day 5 Videos:

No Day 5 videos unfortunately - they didn't get quite finished. It's been awhile since I have posted on my blog, so lets change that, ya? First off - regarding photos from Anime Expo, San Diego Comic-Con, BlizzCon, and Pacific Media Expo - they're coming. Eventually. I swear I'm gonna get those photos up before the end of the year at least.

BTW, I have photos of all the Nendoroids I bought over the past few months at cons and online. The list is Kirito, Miho Nishizumi, Hayate Yagami, Snow Miku 2013, Miku Yukata ver., Madoka Maiko ver., Len & Rin Append ver., and Deep Sea Girl Miku & Madoka expansion set 1. You can find them on the reddit post I put up.

Now, on to the cutie above - it's none other then Yukari Tamura! Yukarin is actually a real person - thus making this Nendoroid of her one of the more rare Nendoroids as the only other people who have had Nendoroids made of them so far is Kamui Kobayashi, Joy Max, Linkin Park, Nana Mizuki (who I have ordered as well!), and T.M. Revolution. Next to her box is Nanoha Takamachi - one of the many anime characters she has voiced over the years and is one of my all-time favorite anime characters. She has also voiced Talim of Soul Calibur - my favorite game character of all time (she's the lovely girl on the left on the background of this blog.)
Posing Nanoha with Yukarin, and of course having them cosplay as each other!

Actually like how the picture below came out. For some reason I only remembered after those first two photos that I have a bounce flash for my camera.

Have to say, Yukarin dressed as Nanoha is a pretty cool look for her - wonder if she's cosplayed her in real life?

Besides showing off Yukarin's backside, I actually took this photo to point out a bad design flaw.

See where the stand connector is where it connects to her back? It's too low and the tail on the dress is nudging the connector - which could cause damage later on. It's something to lookout for in the future...
Decided to pull out my BlizzCon swag bag and display the figures I got in the bag from BlizzCon this year. Kerrigan, Diablo, and Arthas are actually in the same figure design series as the special edition Sylvanas I bought at SDCC.

BTW, I have to admit, the picture below is just great. Yukarin + Frostmourne = WIN.

Just a quick post, since I don't have a lot of time unfortunately - here are some pictures of Nendoroid Yuno and Miku 2.0. I would've spent more time taking photos of them but my life is super hectic right now and I just don't have the time. My time is so short, I'm just dumping the photos without much description.

Anyway, past the jump for more photos!

What to say about this year's edition of Anime Conji? It's a tale of two cons when it comes down to it - Friday was terribly horrific, Saturday was incredibly wonderful, Sunday was... well - sunday. A lot of open space this year (which was a boon for photographers/videographers but not to general attendees or cosplayers), which made for a very interesting con in that certain areas had high traffic and others... well, a zombie could go through and still be hungry.

Anyway, photos and videos past the jump!

Just some personal thoughts on the con before I just let you look at the pretty pictures and videos. I personally think that this con this year was extremely unorganized - possibly so unorganized it could've fell apart. Leave it to it's staff to pull together in the last moment to pull together and come back strong. There are a number of issues that probably have already been talked about on Twitter and Facebook already - I hope that the staff of Anime Conji get the stuff together and put on a great con next year. Because it has everything but the organization to put one on.

This convention has the potential to be the BEST small anime convention on the entire west coast (if not the entire United States). It's on a site where expansion is easily possible (I can easily see up to 20k on-site). It has THE BEST photo backdrop locations of any convention I know of. It's set in a hotel so you can get that 24/7 party con experience that you would get at PMX and ALA.

The only two things holding it back is the staff and the community. The staff needs to just get this convention running properly and it'll be a runaway success - the community needs to step it's game up just a tad more and bring along programming that'll be amazing (not having Anime Last Comic Standing as the friday main event... or not even having a friday main event hurt the con a lot.) Having one single Vocaloid panel for the entire convention is just inexcusable, and the lack of cosplay gatherings hurt the con as well. Vampy and the Cozmode editor are cool GoHs, but other then them - no one seemed all that exciting. The other elements the con needs are in place - the maid cafe is great from what I hear from others, the gaming room is great, and the dealers hall was great.

I really do hope things get better next year - I think in the long run for SPJA it'll be important it does as it could be AX's "Wondercon".

One last thing, I didn't get around to mentioning this on twitter - but as usual I followed through on my usual Nendoroid tradition at cons. So who did I buy? None other then Marika Kato - the captain from the anime "Bodacious Space Pirates". I'll have a picture of her up in a later edit of this page. So stay tuned to this page for updates!
UPDATE #1:
Just posting this here, I didn't make this video (though I wish I did!) but I actually make a appearance in this video:
UPDATE #2:
The entire Anime Conji Masquerade has been uploaded to YouTube, minus the AMVs and the AMV Hell segment. This lovely girl just arrived to my house, the very lovely and flowery Sakura Miku!

The above shot was a tad difficult, because she wanted to hop off her cushions quite a bit. Eventually though, she sat around long enough for me to snap this photo off. Anyway, some more thoughts about her after the jump!
My assistants this time around is Mirai - whose car I still have not gotten around to decorating - and Miku (Cheer ver.) as usual who is always present for Nendoroid unboxings and for conventions.

This time around, Sakura Miku is the very first Nendoroid I received directly from Good Smile Company themselves through their fairly new Global store. All of my past Nendoroid purchases to this point have been purchases during a Anime Convention (as is my usual fairly expensive convnetion tradition) or through the AmiAmi store website.

Speaking of AmiAmi, you may have noticed in the picture next to this paragraph, I placed a empty AmiAmi shipping box next to the GSC shipping box - there is quite a size difference! This isn't the only difference, as for some reason - getting the package from USPS was a more involved process this time around. I wonder if that is because the package came from Singapore instead of Japan.

One thing I was not a fan of is how GSC packaged Sakura Miku. While it looks like the box survived the trip overseas fairly okay - there is quite a bit of room within the box for the Sakura Miku box to get damaged mid-trip. I dear hope that when my Snow Miku (White Strawberry Daifuku ver.) comes in - they'll at least throw in packing nuts to prevent the decorative box from rattling around. Especially since this year's Snow Miku comes in a highly decorative box and I would hate for it to get damaged on shipping.

All in all, I'm glad to have Sakura Miku here. The cherry blossoms are still in bloom here in San Diego, so hopefully soon I'll have some photos outside! That is, if I don't get lazy wanting to do it! ∩( ・ω・)∩

Okay, so these photos are about 2 months late. I'm gonna really gear on getting my photo backlog knocked out VERY soon. Hopefully I can spend all this upcoming monday to knock them out before I go to Jury Duty on tuesday.

Just to note, I will not be uploading unedited photos for the time being until I can find a place to upload them. Photobucket is being silly again and put back memory limits, so I will have to find a new image site to upload them to or make new Photobucket accounts (I'd rather not.)

Anyway, more photos on display after the jump! (Links are at the very end!)

This was the first time I had gone to Anime Los Angeles, and I have to say I was very impressed.

The only convention I have seen even more organized then ALA is the San Diego Comic Con - which is saying something because Comic-Con has been around for over 5 times longer then ALA has.

That said, the venue is a bit cramped - there is few and far between good shooting spots without having to run into other people (or having to shoo them away.) I've seen other photographers using the front of the hotel and the parking garage, but I heard those areas were highly used too.

I personally like the venue - it has it's charms - but the convention just might be too big for it. Or at least, it just needs more open space.

Anyway, definitely I want to come back next year.

Few things for this post:

1) PMX Photos are coming! I swear I will get them done before the end of the year, or die trying! (Also, I'm headed to ALA and the last thing I want is to still have to finish editing PMX when I head to LA.)
2) PMX Videos are pending! They're currently in the queue to do on my YouTube channel (I don't like posting more then one video per day), especially since nearly all the dance videos from the Balboa Park meetups have been published.
3) I will get to my editing backlog eventually. The Con Artist gathering photos from the past few months are on the bottom of the queue, but I will (eventually) get to them and get them up on Facebook.

Now, if you are interested in what is in the package that Miku is looking at above, hit the jump and find out!
Today was a fun day. First off, I uploaded the last video that wasn't up from the November Balboa Park Dance meetup, which you can see here:

【BISCUITs+M2T】J-Pop Master Mix【踊ってみた】

I'm pretty proud of the editing job I did on that video. There is still more I can learn and get much better as a video photographer and editor, but I feel I'm getting better with each video.

Now, on to what this package is! It's a shipment straight from Japan - courtesy of amiami - and usually when it's a shipment from Japan for me, it's usually a Nendoroid.

So who could possibly be in the package this time around...?

It's Nanoha!

For those who have visited my blog in the distant past, Nanoha actually used to be on the banner of the blog (back when I used to call this blog "aNiMeGaMeR's blog" - real original, eh?). She's also voiced by my all-time favorite Japanese voice actress, Yukari Tamura (Nanoha Takamachi, Talim, Tenten, Rika Furude, Mei Sunohara).

Actually, I was quite surprised by how articulate you can get with Nanoha. Her arms and legs are actually jointed, something I would expect from Good Smile Company Figma line - not their Nendoroid line. As a result, she has a far wider range of poses then any of the other Nendoroids I have. I have a feeling she's going to be a real fun one to take pictures of in the future.

Oh by the way, that wasn't the only package to come in today. Another package came in from Florida - courtesy of the folks at CoolStuffInc. Picked up three games - the card game Gloom, the board game The Red Dragon Inn, and the big one I wanted, the anime-inspired Super Dungeon Explore.

I'm sure I'm going to have a lot of fun gluing (and maybe painting) the anime-inspired miniatures in Super Dungeon Explore. Need to get some model glue and some paint tomorrow. If you want to see the figures in completed form (and painted by a pro), check out this YouTube video.

So yea, today was a good day. The only bad things to happen was that it rained for most of the day, and that the power to my house (and the neighborhood) went out twice for short periods of time.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01234149460982766802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4092280.post-3661062267832078092012-11-13T23:29:00.001-08:002013-03-20T22:36:37.892-07:00Pacific Media Expo 2012

Ah dear god it's been way too long since I last posted here on Fatally Curious. There's been a whirlwind of things I've been doing, but I haven't gotten around to posting about it.

Anyway, I recently was at Pacific Media Expo 2012 as a first time attendee - it was quite a fun experience, and I feel that if I get the chance to go back to LA at the beginning of January for Anime Los Angeles 2012 it'll be the same.

In any case, this post is here as a link and photo dump for all the photos and videos I took at PMX 2012. Check it out after the jump.

I'm still in the process of editing photos, so check back every once in a while and eventually photos and links will magically appear below!
Taking the time right now to post this link page up for my Anime Expo stuff before the San Diego Comic-Con starts up. I've been working my day job (then subsequently sick) during the past 7 days between the end of Anime Expo and today - the start of Comic-Con. Anyway, hit the jump for the links to all of the videos and photos I've taken at Anime Expo 2012.

There isn't much flash behind the jump right now, since I haven't even touched editing my photos. This page will be updated whenever I can get around to updating it. So for now, you'll have to do with some links and very little flash.

So it's been awhile since I have posted a blog post, but today I change that! It's been two and a half months since I last posted on the blog, which honestly comes down to me just not posting as much as I should - as usual. That doesn't mean I've been inactive in terms of Cosplay Photography. Moreover, I'm now on YouTube as well, posting "Nico-style" Dance videos. So while I may not be as active on the blog, I'm still quite active on Twitter, on YouTube now, and as a cosplay photographer. I'm also sadly more active on Facebook, though I don't go around spreading my Facebook around as I do my other stuff.

That said, it's high time I get some consolidation on some of the things I'm doing and not having it sprayed all over the place. So here it is:

All videos (Dance Videos, Cosplay Videos) will be on my YouTube channel - http://www.youtube.com/animegamer0

All other videos will be posted via Facebook, since generally these things are more "private" in nature. (EDIT - this is being changed, see below. 6/14/2012)

All edited photos starting with Anime Expo 2012 will be posted on Flickr.

All non-edited photo "dump" galleries will still be uploaded on Photobucket.

Starting after Anime Expo 2012, I'll try to be more active on figure.fm

The end of this month starts the craziest 20 day period for me in the year, with both Anime Expo and San Diego Comic-Con happening two weeks of each other. If I do end up going to AM² (I'm on the fence of going or not), then it'll be a crazy month. In any case, I'm looking forward to meeting people out there!

EDIT (6/14/2012) - Facebook has a 1024mb video limitation, so most likely almost every video I will take now will be appearing on my YouTube channel. While I'd like to not clutter the channel with non-dance, non-cosplay videos - I'd like to just not bother making another YouTube channel in doing so.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01234149460982766802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4092280.post-91218136903059552082012-03-17T01:26:00.002-07:002012-03-17T01:26:52.583-07:00@ Anime Conji 2012

Yea, Anime Conji is this weekend and I'm out there shooting photos, and doing a bit of videos too. I think this time around, unlike last year's Conji or SDCC - I won't be mass posting all my pictures of the day over night. Call it the old man in me to not want to really get around to doing that now. Anyway, I'm gonna be out there - don't be afraid to wave me over or tap me on the shoulder to say hi while I'm out there.

Oh, and I'll leave the photo above as a teaser for some of photos I have taken on Day 1.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01234149460982766802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4092280.post-40536951350233732832012-03-02T11:38:00.000-08:002012-03-02T11:38:02.266-08:00Nico Douga Dancing

Wow, it's March already. Time sure does fly, doesn't it?

One of the things I like is watching people do stuff. It could just be anything, and I might be entertained by it. Which is why I really love the dancers who post videos of themselves on Nico Nico Douga (usually doing covers of Miku Hatsune songs). They don't just dance in some random enclosed area such as their room or a studio (though they still do) but they perform out in the public. They dance their favorite songs in front of whatever cool looking place for a background they could find - and people in Japan seemingly don't care.

So this post is all about some of those dancers and a bit of the dances they have made that have become favorites of mine.

Before I even get into the meat of this post, I have to give a quick shout out to Treetopfan - a German who began reposting the dances from Nico Nico Douga to YouTube to give it greater exposure. And to think, he started off as just a overseas fan of Kozue Aikawa (his name is a alliteration, "treetop" in Japanese is "kozue") and later became a fan of the many dancers that frequent Nico Douga.

Speaking of Kozue Aikawa (

愛川こずえ)...

Kozue Aikawa is probably the most influential dancer on Nico Douga - not only has she gained national fame in Japan, but international fame across the world. Her dance unit, DANCEROID, which she formed with Ikura (いとくとら) and former member Minka Lee (ミンカ・リー) has performed across the world to Miku Hatsune tunes such as the above "Megu Megu Fire Endless Night".

How she became famous (both on Nico Douga and on YouTube) is a inspiration for many Japanese girls, many of which now do the same thing as her - posting videos of themselves doing dances created by DANCEROID.

Apricot* (あぷりこっと*) is one of those dancers who you just seemed sucked into watching dance endlessly. Her dance of "Heart Beats" (the above video) is probably the best version of the dance - even more so then the guy who created it - KimagurePrince (気まぐれプリンス). Heart Beats is also a great song for a dancer who is just starting out to learn.

Tadanon (ただのん) is probably the most famous male dancer on Nico Douga. His unique black and red hairstyle and red shoes makes him stand out - and he has quite a large female fan base. "Senbonzakura" (the song in the above video) is also one of my newer favorite Miku Hatsune songs.

Tei☆in (てぃ☆イン!)- better known as Fine (ファイン) and Tsurutei (つるてぃー) - are not only the best pair dancers on Nico Douga, but are the creators of a number of dances that have been adopted by the Nico Douga Dancer community. Their choreography is both graceful and beautiful to watch yet seemingly easy to do. "Tell Your World", the song in the above video, is a fairly new Miku Hatsune song. The song is featured in a Google Chrome commercial in Japan, and is created by kz-Livetune - a famed Vocaloid song producer and also a DJ.

Lastly...

Makoto is one of my favorite dancers and is the creator of a small number of dances ("Sweetiex2", "Electric Star", and the above "Renai Circulation"). While she's not quite as known as the other dancers mentioned, she's one of the early dancers along with Kozue to be dancing on Nico Douga. She also placed 2nd in a famed Nico Douga competition involving Megumi Nakajima's "Be MYSELF" single (famed for how many Japanese got angry about the competition itself and how it was being used as a promotional tool to sell singles.)

These are only some of the dancers on Nico Douga who have gained popularity in Japan and a small following overseas. I highly suggest subscribing to Treetopfan's YouTube channel if you want to see more dancers doing fun dances.

As for myself, the dancers in Japan have inspired me to help others create dance videos in the same way they do in Japan. While I may not have the talent to dance, I do have the ability to help others who do to post videos online for people to enjoy. Photographers in Japan such as takachii, sukeb, and SakanaP (さかなP) use HD Video capable Digital SLR cameras, which is why I went out and got a Sony a55 so that I can make videos in the same way.

So, here is two dancers I worked with - and I hope to eventually help grow the overseas Nico Douga Dance community in whatever way I can. Even if it's just filming people dancing...

Wow, it's been quite awhile since I last posted on this blog. As in, there's already been one month and a new year since I last posted. Anyway, this post is just to assure people that, in fact, I am still alive. And taking Cosplay Photos. And will now be uploading videos onto YouTube, including dance videos that look like those you might have seen me link on the blog in the past. How? Well, you only need to look at the picture above to see a DSLR that came in the mail - I got a Sony a55 DSLR from KEH Camera and it's performed to expectations.

More Photos and even Videos after the jump!

Now that I have a new camera, I went around this weekend putting it through it's paces - both as a regular photo camera and as a HD capable video camera. I think the following pictures and videos speak for themselves:

Along with the new camera, I added a new Photo Gallery link on the right side of the page for Cosplay Gatherings that are outside of a convention setting. It's a much needed link since I'm actually a tad bit backed up on the amount of photos I have that have never been posted online and are just sitting away on my computer.

Overall, I find that I'm in a exciting time for the upcoming year in not just do Cosplay Photography, but being able to do video and do a variety of things that I just haven't had the capability of doing before.

Lastly, but most importantly - I'm finally doing one of the things I've been wanting to do for over a year now - filming people dance in cool places. It's something that only the Japanese have been doing, and I'm glad to finally be one of the first to be doing this on the other side of the ocean in America. Definately, if you are interested in having HD-quality dance videos and live in the Southern California area - I'd like to hear from you. Now, here is the very first "Nico-style" Dance Video that I have filmed and uploaded to YouTube. Two more videos to come too!

Homura Akemi, the dark-brooding, time travelling Magical Girl of Puella Magi Madoka Magica arrived in the mail today.

I fell in love with this Nendroid months back when the pre-orders came up. I mean, you don't see Magical Girls use a M9 Handgun, a RPG-7 Anti-tank Rocket Launcher, and crude homemade Pipe Bombs all that often. It's too bad they didn't make her Type 88 Heavy Machine Gun, but I'll take what I got. (BTW - her class in Battlefield 3 would SO be a Engineer.)

It's also awesome that she is included with a full additional set of hair in the braided form from the latter episodes of the series where she was initially a very sickly girl. It's too bad I didn't get to order Mami, Kyouko, and Sayaka.

Thanks again to AmiAmi, for getting Homura here in a mere 50 hours.
All I will get around to saying is that a ton of things happened, and a lot of pictures were taken. How much? I took nearly four times more photos this year compared to last year. My time at this year's BlizzCon was absolutely amazing, and hopefully with this con-report, maybe it'll inspire some of you to (attempt to) go to BlizzCon 2012.

If you just want to see my big Photo Gallery (with less lacking photoshopping!) - the link is on the right bar or right here, for the lazy.

Anyway, more after the jump.
Day 0 starts off like most other people's Day 0. Unless you arrived on Day -1 (technically Wednesday). The drive up to BlizzCon this year was actually pretty fun, considering in past years - after the first half-hour of the drive, my group tends to don headphones and just listen to whatever. Watching Wowcrendor videos and chatting up what your Ultimate Dynasty Warriors team would be somehow made a two-hour trip seem pretty short. To quickly wrap this part up to get to the Wowhead meetup - I quickly found out I still cannot eat Seafood (despite having Asian genes), it was awesome skipping the huge badge line (thank you friend who got hired to be a Blizzard GM), and dear god I love the Pirate Dinner Show.

The Wowhead/WoW Insider Party was pretty cool - though I felt like a fish out of water walking around. I arrived pretty late, so everyone already had their cliques going and it's hard to approach random people. I did take some cool photos, and eventually chatted up with last year's BlizzCon Costume Contest winner - Chrstina the Diablo 3 Monk. I ended up leaving the party with Pocket (and friends), and oddly enough as we were leaving, Ghostcrawler was coming in.

Before hitting the sack, ran into some cool peoples. :P

Note - not the entire group

There was so much going on Day 1. Obviously, the big announcements were pretty huge - getting to play cute Pandas who kick ass and drink all day will be fun to have in WoW, the SC2 Heart of the Swarm trailer is amazing (and the demo was just --- I wish I had more time to play it), and Diablo 3 right along, though I wish it could have shipped this year. Though, apparently WoW will also be introducing Pokemon into the game in the future. Not sure what to make of that.

The cosplay photoshoot was great - the group was huge! I didn't have a wide-angle lens to get everyone in a single shot. I wish I got there sooner, but my time at the Mists of Pandaria demo took me a bit past the start time of the photoshoot. By the way, the Mists of Pandaria demo was heck of a lot of fun - it seemed to be already very polished, and almost live-ready.

The contests were awesome. I'll admit that I was a bit underwhelmed last year with the costumes - while there were some great cosplays last year, there were quite a few last year that weren't up to par in quality expected at a BlizzCon. This year, almost every cosplayer that walked on stage was absolutely amazing. There was only one or two where I wish they weren't in the Costume Contest - and only because I felt their slots could have been given to other cosplayers who spent more effort but got denied in getting into the contest this year. There were a number of costumes that I think got snubbed, but I guess that is bound to happen this year because there were so many quality costumes this year.
Lastly, to end Day 1 - I have to say, I do watch StarCraft 2 match videos every so often. But the atmosphere and the excitement of being at the StarCraft 2 Global Starcraft League Grand Finals was just amazing. It seriously felt like I was at EVO - the way the audience was and the atmosphere was. I would've expected that type of atmosphere in Korea. I never would've thought it would happen here in the US - StarCraft 2 has really come a long way, hasn't it?
Day 2 was about visiting booths and trying out the Heart of the Swarm demo. Seriously, I already want to play Heart of the Swarm at home right now. I know next year, I will probably do less panels. While it was nice watching some of the panels, I felt that perhaps it would've been better if I had spent more time playing demos then watching panels. Okay, maybe I'll just watch the live raid only next year. BTW - running into awesome voice people is well - awesome. I only hope my photos are good enough for them.

The Day 2 Cosplay Photoshoot was awesome. Why the female Barbarian who showed up didn't get into the Cosplay Contest just boggles me. It was unfortunate the entire Burlesque group didn't get their costumes done, but it was still a amazing and fun shoot. I think the Day 2 shoot is here to stay for sure.

Watching the StarCraft 2 BlizzCon Invitational finals was amazing. The atmosphere was like last night - and the match was crazy intense! The fighting game community has a word that fits the atmosphere of the SC2 finals matches perfectly - "Hype" - and that match definitely was Hype to the max.
The Closing Concert was really fun. I happened to actually get really close up to the stage only a half-hour before L90ETC hit the stage, and got some amazing shots. I didn't think I'd stick around for Foo Fighters - but my spot was so good, and I happened to like Foo Fighters so much that I decided to stick around. It was unfortunate at that point for my DSLR camera to die and I accidentally left my back-up battery in the hotel room.
The only disappointment of the entire con was not even at the con. It was the Hilton shutting down the Anahiem Hilton Pool Party before it even started. I could tell walking around the over-crowded lobby (I'm amazed that the Fire Marshal didn't come in to kick people out) that there was a lot more sober people at the hotel then usual. Even Metzen, who is absolutely gone by the time midnight rolls around, was pretty much sober. I know for sure next year there will be a mass exodus from the Hilton - and that'll probably hurt them quite a bit.

All in all, it was a fun time - it was awesome meeting so many amazing people. I seriously hope to go to another amazing BlizzCon next year.

Something that I did last year before BlizzCon 2010 is a events list. This year, I'm deferring over to Kana over on the BlizzCon forums, since it's better to have just one list - though he is a bit slow updating sometimes.

Link is here:
http://us.battle.net/blizzcon/en/forum/topic/2913211405

I might also be carrying some new stuff for BlizzCon this year. Business Cards (finally, since so many people at conji, AX, and SDCC have been asking) - and maybe a new phone (to keep up with twitter. :P). I may also look into buying a new lens before the trip too. Lot of things I might look to do before the big event in two weeks. It'll definitely be fun for sure.

Hope to see some of you there!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01234149460982766802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4092280.post-7691531000013739442011-10-01T10:35:00.000-07:002011-10-05T10:41:21.650-07:00Tadanon's Dance Medley Madness

First off, I'm back! Computer came in a day or two ago and now I'm getting re-settled with my computer. Found out that my computer's motherboard crapped out, so it got replaced along with the liquid cooling fan it had. Gotta say, the computer is a heck of a lot quieter then it used to be before.

Anyway, something else arrived in the mail this morning... wonder what it is?

Madoka finally arrived at my house, and she came pretty quick (she shipped out August 29th in Japan, arrived in at my house here in USA on September 2nd.) Then again, she *is* a magical girl, and she's one of the most powerful to ever grace any Japanese anime.

Actually, she arrived so quick because I got EMS service for it, which gets the package shipped to the USA via airmail instead of by ship.

This is the first Nendoroid box I've seen that has a parts list included - and small visual instructions on how to attach Kyubey to Madoka's arm.

Oh, I did mention that Kyubey is here also, right? I'm sure some friends of mine will be wanting to chuck him out the window.

Anyway, I'm glad I bought this - she is the 3rd Nendoroid I've gotten this year, and the first off of internet pre-orders. Thanks to AmiAmi for the great service!

I'll get around to posting those last two Comic-Con reports... eventually.
Nice time for my computer to poop out after I finally had some time to finish writing up the comic con reports. Using a iPad to write this, which is cool to use but sucks to use typing. I'll finish up Day 3 when I can. I doubt I'll do a day 4 since nothing much happened that day anyway. Anyway, don't expect a update for awhile.
